As the nights draw in and the temperature drops, up pop the igloo pods. Igloo dining in London offers a see-through bubble of warmth and privacy, no-matter the weather outside. It’s an increasingly popular solution for restaurants and bars wanting to use their outdoor spaces all year. You would have seen a few of these bubble spaces around the capital before the pandemic, but since autumn and winter 2020, London has seen igloo pods popping up across the capital. This is our guide to the best igloo restaurants in London.
Coppa by the Tower run by the Coppa Club chain is a stunning Southbank location by Tower Bridge, giving you an impressive igloo dining experience. This is an easy-going, stylish venue inside and out, serving fresh British and Mediterranean dishes. Open for breakfast and into the evening, the nine permanent igloo pods on the terrace have something a little special.
Your pod has room for up to eight guests, giving you glorious riverside views of London, including Tower Bridge, whether you’re coming for brunch, lunch or dinner. They also have speakers so you can enjoy laid back tunes as you soak up the vista.
Get cosy in one of five igloo domes in the heart of Kensington at London Secret Garden. Heated in winter and air-conditioned in summer, these pods withstand almost any weather London can muster. With room for up to ten people, the private igloos are tucked beside a 19th-century church in Grenfell Garden. Visit for afternoon tea, try the tasting menu or settle in for a two- or three-course winter menu with friends and experience the domes at London Secret Garden.
An igloo on a rooftop by an ice-rink. Brilliant! The Skylight Tobacco Dock’s rooftop igloos bring a winter wonderland party vibe to the heart of London. After a session on the ice rink, you’ll be ready to get toasty inside your igloo with a heater, cushions and blankets. The igloos have room for up to 14 people, but you can also book igloos next to each other for a bigger party. Enjoy cocktails and your choice of pop-up street food for a fun night inside your rooftop igloo.
On the pile of London’s igloo bars, Bar Elba’s 12-person party igloo pods are surely near the top. These party pods offer 360° views of the London skyline: the London Eye, The Shard and St Paul’s Cathedral. Plus, you can load up the party pod speaker with your own playlist. Add to that mix fairy lights, tasty snacks and plenty of seasonal cocktails and you’re in for a fantastic igloo bar experience.
