Those looking for a family day out with a twist will be heading to Middlesbrough this month, for the final days of a quirky exhibition.

The Dorman Museum also has eight themed galleries which display a range of fossils, mounted birds, butterflies, social history collections, old photographs and archaeological finds.

Parents struggling to entertain their children over the summer break may find the museum an entertaining and educational attraction.

Middlesbrough also boasts the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum and the Institute of Modern Art, which is located opposite the town hall.

Middlesbrough Music Live, Middlesbrough, June 1st

A free one-day music event will take place for the ninth time in Middlesbrough this summer

On Sunday June 1st the Middlesbrough Music Live event will see Northern Irish indie rockers Ash take to the main stage, while over 100 other supporting acts will join them throughout the day.

Graham Ramsay, of Ten Feet Tall which organises the event for the local council, said: "We're over the moon to have secured Ash as headliners!

"They're one of those bands that even if you think you're not a big fan, as soon as you hear the hits, you can't stop singing along."

Last year Middlesbrough Music Live drew a record crowd of 45,000 people, thanks to a stellar line up of acts, including Amy MacDonald, The Twang, Newton Faulkner and Elliot Minor.

This year budding pop-punk group You Me At Six and US power-pop band Cartel have been booked, while other top acts will be announced nearer the date.

While in Middlesbrough visitors may also want to visit the city's Institute of Modern Art, take a tour of its high street shops or bungee jump off the city's iconic Transporter Bridge.

Music fans can stay at Thistle Middlesbrough, which with online price check and booking facilities, couldn't be easier.
