Thistle Hotels Scotland are celebrating their recent triumph at the industry-acclaimed Scottish Hotel Awards, receiving an impressive four awards for hospitality excellence; the Hospitality Gold Medal, the Turnaround Award, a Manager Gold Medal award and the title of Senior Chef Fellowship 2010.

Often referred to as the Oscars ceremony for Scotland’s hotels, the highly-regarded event, held in Edinburgh, sees industry peers come together annually to celebrate the very best in Scottish hospitality.

Thistle Hotels, with six properties across Scotland, was especially proud to see Executive Chef, Joe Queen scoop the honorary title of 2010 Senior Chef Fellowship, the only winner within this acclaimed category.

Already well-known amongst Scottish foodies and hospitality bodies, Queen made a real impact with the judging panel of industry experts; ranging from chefs to hotel managers, with his culinary passion and success in dramatically enhancing Thistle’s food and beverage offering throughout all its Scottish properties.

Queen was in exceptionally good company with fellow award-winner Mark Gallagher, General Manager of Thistle’s Glasgow hotel, being recognised personally for management excellence within the 300-bedroomed city-centre hotel with the Manager Gold Medal award.

Thistle’s Aberdeen Airport hotel also had the privilege of collecting a medal; accredited with the Turnaround Award 2010; for significantly enriching the entire guest experience.

Recently accredited with the Hospitality Assured stamp of approval for exceptional customer service, the airport hotel’s success with this award was greatly supported by Thistle’s £2million investment to completely upgrade its bedrooms and public spaces, as well as the thorough implementation of clear brand standards across all departments.

The awards, organised annually by the Hospitality Research body, also selected Thistle Aberdeen Altens, another Thistle Hospitality Assured property, as a clear winner of the Hospitality Gold Medal for their exceptional care and attention to the guest experience; which is at the very heart of Thistle’s service ethos.

Heiko Figge, Managing Director, Thistle Hotels, commented: “The group’s notable success at this year’s Scottish Hotel Awards is indicative of the exceptional talent we have here within the group, whether that’s at a food & beverage or management level - our colleagues are truly dedicated to delivering the Thistle guest experience; high standards within relaxed comfort and a warm, welcoming service.

Being recognised by our industry peers is fantastic in showcasing the enhancement being made across the entire Thistle Hotels estate, during our ongoing £100million rebrand and refurbishment investment.  I congratulate all our successful colleagues in Scotland on their achievements.”
