Thistle Hotels has secured a prestigious award at the HRS.com Hotel Excellence Awards, the equivalent of the hotel industry Oscars.

The Thistle Hotel in Middlesbrough scooped the highly prestigious ‘Excellence Through People’ award, beating the Jumeirah Carlton Tower in London in the process. The award is testimony to Thistle Hotel’s continued investment in employee training and development.

The judges commented on the impressive entry, with the hotel presenting a strong case for its link between employee engagement and investment in training. An increase in profits up 22 per cent, in light of difficult trading conditions, in the judges’ words, made the hotel a clear winner.

The Thistle Hotel at Aberdeen Airport was also shortlisted in the ‘Excellent In Customer Services’ category, closely missing out on scooping first prize.

The HRS.com Hotel Excellence Awards were founded as a benchmark for the hotel industry. The awards recognise exceptional hotels, both small and large, that have been successful in a number of areas including; service, excellence, innovation, helping employees, supporting the local economy and the environment.
