It seems the sweeping, evocative countryside of Wales has taken effect on the romantics amongst us…. new findings from Thistle Hotels released today show that Wales has topped the nation’s love league as the most popular Hotel Stay destination this Valentines Day.

Thistle Hotels has reviewed the number of bookings, requests for champagne and pre-orders for breakfast in bed on the 14th Feb, to create the UK’S Valentine’s Love League. Newcastle, Manchester, London and Cheltenham complete the league, to make up the top five most romantic UK destinations.

The North East is hot on the heels of Wales in the love stakes, with the County Hotel by Thistle in Newcastle coming in a close second to The Parc in terms of booking numbers for Sunday 14th February.

And it seems that people aren’t scared to splash out when trying to impress that special someone; The Parc has taken the most requests for the groups ‘Valentine Package’, which includes Champagne, chocolates as well as upgraded toiletries and bath robes.

Richard O’Riordan, general manager of The Parc, commented on the findings: “We have a country full of romantic settings and beautiful scenery and have much more to offer than just a good rugby team!

“We’re thrilled that so many people have chosen Cardiff for their Valentine’s celebrations and will be ensuring we have plenty of champagne on ice. We’re really looking forward to welcoming all our couples this weekend and can guarantee that they will have a night to remember here at The Parc.”

Thistle hotels is still taking bookings for Valentine’s Day, enabling last minute romantics to impress their loved ones and take advantage of special rates on the Romance Package, which includes bed and breakfast, with champagne and chocolates from as little as £85.00 per room.
