Jeffrey Bishop, senior conference and events porter at Thistle Middlesbrough, has been awarded an Outstanding Customer Service Award at the 2009 North East England Tourism Awards, demonstrating the calibre of Thistle’s staff, dedicated to offering a high standard of service.
Under the group’s £100million refurbishment of the hotels across the UK, Thistle is continuing to place a strong focus on its staff as it believes that they are at the very heart of the guest experience.
Jeffrey, who has worked at the Middlesbrough hotel for 34 years and has won Employee of the Month several times, is in charge of the day to day operation of the hotel’s 17 meeting rooms including setting up and resetting the rooms, meeting the conference hosts and delegates and ensuring the smooth running of events.
It was Jeffrey’s friendly and helpful character along with his dedication to implementing a high standard of service that led the judges to find him a worthy candidate for this award.

The £100million investment across the group includes the roll out of a new corporate identity. In addition to developing the individual hotels which includes enhancements to the exteriors, new contemporary furnishings and state of the art technology.
